At Landscaping Unlimited Inc., we’re known for building patios, installing sod, and transforming yards, but sometimes, the most important work we do happens far from any sidewalk or sprinkler head. Some of our most significant projects and impactful work have taken place outside of the public eye.

That was the case when we were called to undertake an ambitious environmental project deep in the North Carolina wilderness:

Clearing out natural waterways blocked by years of dams, debris, and human neglect.

The goal?

Restore the natural flow so native fish can return to spawn.

When creeks and rivers become blocked by fallen trees, sediment buildup, trash, or even abandoned man-made structures, it can disrupt the entire aquatic ecosystem. Fish can no longer swim upstream to spawn. Oxygen levels drop. Erosion worsens.

The natural balance collapses.

That’s where Landscaping Unlimited Inc. came in, not as landscapers, but as stewards of the land.

What We Did

Our team:

Traveled deep into off-grid zones with equipment and manual tools
Cleared massive debris piles blocking creek paths
Removed remnants of artificial dams and fallen structures
Stabilized eroded banks with natural solutions
Worked alongside conservation leaders to ensure every step aligned with ecological best practices

This wasn’t a manicured project; it was wet, sweaty, and driven by a mission.

By restoring the water flow, we:

Opened miles of natural breeding routes for fish
Reduced flood risk for surrounding areas
Improved water quality by increasing oxygen and movement
Supported long-term biodiversity in Eastern NC’s wild ecosystems
